The Pankrushikhinskiy District is located in the northwest of the Altai Region. The centre of the District, the village of Pankrushikha, is 274 km away from Barnaul, and 240 km away from Novosibirsk. A railway line crosses the Districts territory, there are three railway stations. The Districts area is 2783 square km. The landscape is represented by slightly rolling plain with absolute heights of 200-260 meters. The climate is extremely continental. Sufficient amount of heat and weak moistening are the soil formation factors; the major soil types are moderately loamy, forest, sandy chernozems, also saline chernozems are found. The vegetation of the District is typical for forest-steppe part of the Priobskaya sub-zone. The natural vegetation is represented by motley grass of feather-grass species and motley grass of cereal species. The District is rich in forests. The belt of pine forest passes from the village of Zykovo and extends beyond the District limits through the village of Vysokaya Griva. Significant number of small groves (koloks) is typical for the District, these are birch, aspen-birch, aspen small groves. The areas between koloks are occupied meadows, which are used as pastures or field for haymaking. There is birch, pine, aspen, bird cherry, willow, poplar, yellow acacia in the forests and groves. The wildlife of the forests is represented by moose, roe-deer, lynx, hare, squirrel, fox, polecat, mink. There are muskrats and beavers in rivers and lakes. Wild birds are represented by black grouse, partridge, wood grouse, hazel hen, geese and ducks. There are plenty of mushrooms and berries in the forests. At the depth of 60-370 meters at two points of the District there are formations of mineral waters, on their chemical composition close to mineral waters Alma-Atinskaya and Crimean Narzan. Research carried out by the Novosibirsk Institute of Oil and Gas allows to reliably establishing the fact of commercial oil-bearing formations availability. There are significant deposits of clay, suitable for building bricks manufacturing, there are deposits of white clay (probably alumina). There are also some data on availability within the district of iron ore and coal deposits. The territory of the District is crossed by an inter-regional highway. Agriculture traditionally develops in two directions crop farming and animal farming which is promoted by favourable climate. 104640 ha arable lands are tilled, besides there are 12515 ha of laylands. Provided correct agricultural practices are applied, grain crops on the lands of the District may yield as high as 3.5-4.0 tons per ha. The industry of the District is represented by number of enterprises Pankrushikhinskiy Forestry producing timber, lumber, etc.; Joint-stock Company Pankrushikhinskiy Dairy constantly increasing its range of whole-milk products during recent years; Pankrushikhinskoye Transportation Company steadily working automobile transportation enterprise providing passenger transportation within the District and inter-city transportation. A construction company Pankrushikhinskaya MPMK, provides various constructions, maintenance and repair services for individual and civil buildings in the Districts and beyond. There are number of flour mills and bakeries in the District supplying the population with their products. The District is of interest for potential investments into its industry: construction materials, mineral water, timber an lumber, grain crops, meat, milk, forages for animal farming, as well as petroleum production. This is promoted by the convenient geographical location of the District and availability of transport communication, available labour resources, and three railway stations in the District.
